BB-8 first made an appearance in The Force Awakens.

The first BB8 mug is a 3D sculpture of BB-8 the special astromech droid and part of the resistance.
BB-8 had an important mission when he/she (no one knows BB-8’s gender) first made an appearance in the force awakens.
