Magic Mugs are a source of fascination you pour hot water in and they change colour or reveal a new design that wasn’t there before, so how one wonders are they made? And how do they work? Or is it just magic?
I can tell you it’s not magic unfortunately which is sad because real magic would be cool.
The design of a Magic Mug has been Screen Printed using heat sensitive paint that changes colour when heated.
The heat-sensitive paint contains special pigments which contain Thermochromatic Crystals and Leuco Dyes. Both allow the chemical process of Thermochromism which is when material changes colour depending on temperature.
When you make a cup of Tea in your Magic Mug, the hot water heats up the heat-sensitive paint triggering the process of Thermochromism which in turn makes the image on your mug magically appear or change in some way or another.
